I lived in Catania Sicily for the second half of 2001. In my suitcase, I had packed a 4 track cassette recorder, and it promptly died. I had a transformer to convert from 230V to 120V, but I suspect it had some timing/speed circuitry that relied on 60hz, and Italy's 50hz power fried it. Or maybe it was just it's time.

I'd never done any digital recording, but I had a laptop and I found a shareware program called n-Track, and I started recording. I had a couple of microphones. Maybe an SM57 and an SM94? Not sure. And a Sansamp GT. An inexpensive acoustic guitar I bought in Catania, and my electric I'd brought from home. Mostly just the gear you see in the cover photo.

These aren't great, for the most part, if I'm being honest. 5 and 7 are ok, I guess. 1, 6, 7 were actually recorded back home in North Carolina, but on similar gear in a similar headspace, so I kind of lumped them in with the Sicily stuff.

I have no memory of 'parsley'. I've spent most of my adult life fighting moderate to severe anxiety, which has meant several long bouts of insomnia, which I understand can interfere with the brain's ability to create and store memories, so there are large swaths of my past that are only vaguely recallable. It's fairly disorienting to come across something you apparently worked on for some length of time and to have zero memory of it at all. Hearing the song, it seems plausible that I might have been having some kind of episode when that one went down.
